It was raining when we approached the border crossing to Romania and we were a little surprised to see cars pulling over to the side of the road. We wondered what was going on - was it something to do with the border controls? But we understood when the heavens opened and down came rain like you never saw in England. With visibility reduced to nothing, we pulled off the road too! The border crossing seemed slightly more friendly than in Hungary. Maybe we were getting used to Eastern Europe - but we also learned there some magic words. They were, with a strong Romanian accent, .... Bobby Moore ... Bobby Charlton ... it was only a couple of months since England had lost the World Cup.
