I have no idea what James was up to here - his Romanian (or would it have been Bulgarian) was not strong (well, non-existent to be precise) and there were not many people who spoke English round there either. But that never worried him. I did in fact meet someone at the Black sea who was learning English and asked me for a book to practice reading. I gave him the only fiction book I had 'The Man Who Sold the Moon' - short stories by Robert Heinlein. I wonder what he made of it.
